At an altitude of 3,250 m there is snow all year round. Cool temperatures prevail here even in summer.
We therefore recommend sturdy, ankle-high shoes with a good tread and grip. You should also dress warmly enough, because in the Nature Ice Palace there is a constant temperature of 0 degrees Celsius all year round. Gloves are advantageous, so even the short, cold iron ladders in the world of ice can't harm you.
Until you get to the entrance of the Natural Ice Palace on the tour, you have to walk 200 meters over the snow. It goes half the distance also downhill. There can be high minus temperatures and strong wind at the glacier (not in the Nature Ice Palace). Therefore, we ask our visitors to inform themselves beforehand about the weather conditions on the glacier and to dress accordingly.
- Sunglasses are an advantage when leaving the Nature Ice Palace, as the eyes have to get used to the brightness from outside. The snow can be a bit blinding when walking back from the ice cave to the mountain station "Gletscherbus 3".
- You can join the extended tour and the basic tour with ski or snowboard boots. In winter, 80% of the visitors visit our world of ice with them. However, if possible, we recommend that you bring a change of shoes, as the rigid ski or snowboard boots offer less room for movement. Extras to the Extended Tour, such as the Photo Session, Stand-Up Paddling/Kayaking and the Couple/Family Adventure Tour are only possible with mountain/walking boots.
